Incorporating Computer Technology into English Language Teaching and Learning

EVENT DESCRIPTION

BELTA organized a Workshop on Computer-assisted language learning in partnership with the English Department, Presidency University titled “Incorporating Computer Technology into English Language Teaching and Learning” on September 23, 2011 at the English Department, Presidency University.

Md. Masudul Hasan who has recently completed his M. Phil. in English Language Education (ELE) from The English and Foreign Languages University, India, conducted this workshop on computer assisted language learning. This hands-on workshop started with a brief description of computer-assisted language learning (CALL) and demonstrated language learning software programs and website resources. It showed how easily CALL resources can be used to teach and learn the English language. The bulk of the workshop time was spent with participants working in pairs or groups to view and evaluate language programs, websites which are dedicated to language teaching and learning. The presenter introduced some innovative ideas of using CALL web resources in the language classroom. He also familiarized with Podcast, sources of Podcast materials and the use of on-going assessment in the computer-enhanced language classroom.
