The Department of Economics offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs to equip students with the analytical tools and theoretical understanding of modern economics. These include the <strong>Bachelor of Social Science (BSS) in Economics<\/strong> and the <strong>Master of Social Science (MSS) in Economics<\/strong>, catering to the academic and professional aspirations of students interested in economic analysis, public policy, development, and quantitative research.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong><em>BSS in Economics<\/em><\/strong> program has been carefully designed to address contemporary social and economic challenges. Its curriculum aligns with the credit and course structures of top-ranking public and private universities in Bangladesh\u2014including the University of Dhaka, Jahangirnagar University, North South University, East West University, and BRAC University\u2014as well as leading North American institutions.<\/p>\n<p>Following international frameworks such as ISCO-08, ISCED, BAC, and BNQF, the curriculum integrates a wide range of core and elective courses. Core areas include microeconomics, macroeconomics, mathematics, statistics, econometrics, development economics, public finance, and research methods. The program also offers specialized courses in environmental economics, labor economics, agricultural economics, industrial economics, international economics, health economics, urban economics, and more. A strong emphasis is placed on quantitative proficiency, data analysis, and the application of theory to real-world economic problems.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong><em>MSS in Economics<\/em><\/strong> program is designed to provide advanced academic and applied training in economics. It prepares students for academic careers and leadership roles in research organizations, development agencies, financial institutions, think tanks, and government bodies. The curriculum promotes higher-order analytical thinking and includes advanced courses in macroeconomics, monetary economics, project evaluation, research methodology, and contemporary issues in economic policy. It maintains strong ties with the <strong>Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA)<\/strong> and other professional bodies, helping students stay connected with current economic issues and policy developments. This is a four-year undergraduate program consisting of 132 credits. The curriculum has been revised over the years to align with the evolving demands of the job market, global academic standards, and national development priorities.<\/p>\n<p>The BSS program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in economic theory, quantitative analysis, policy evaluation, and applied research. It includes core courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, mathematics, statistics, econometrics, development economics, and public finance, as well as specialized courses such as environmental economics, labor economics, health economics, industrial economics, and international economics. The program promotes interdisciplinary learning by integrating concepts from sociology, political science, and data science, helping students become well-rounded professionals with practical and analytical capabilities.<\/p>\n<h6><strong>Admission Requirements for BSS in Economics Program<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>Applicants must have completed 12 years of formal education. The following qualifications are acceptable:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>SSC and HSC with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or second division in each;<\/li>\n<li>O-Level with five subjects and A-Level with two subjects completed, each with a minimum GPA of 2.0.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h6><strong>MASTER OF SOCIAL SCIENCE (MSS) IN ECONOMICS (36, 48, OR 60 CREDITS)<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>The MSS in Economics is a graduate-level program designed to build advanced knowledge and applied research skills in economics.
