Mr. Md. Abbas Uddin is a Senior Assistant Judge in the Bangladesh Judicial Service and currently serves as Senior Assistant Secretary (Writ-1) in the Law and Justice Division, Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Bangladesh. He joined the judiciary in November 2014 after being enrolled as an Advocate with the Bangladesh Bar Council in February 2012.
As Senior Assistant Secretary (Writ-1) at the Solicitor Wing, he leads a five-member team managing the Writ Section, handling approximately 20,000 cases annually. He coordinates with the Attorney General’s Office and various ministries to ensure effective government representation before the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. His responsibilities include reviewing case documents, advising on legal merits, and facilitating appropriate legal action.
Previously, he served as Senior Assistant Secretary (Training), overseeing approval and coordination of local and international training programs for judges of the Bangladesh Judicial Service and collaborating with development partners on programs relating to ADR, legal aid, access to justice, alternative sentencing, and criminal justice reform.
Over the past decade in judicial service, he has held positions including Civil Judge, Family Court Judge, Senior Judicial Magistrate, and District Legal Aid Officer, serving in Narsingdi, Cox’s Bazar, and Cumilla.
