Presidency University is proud to have Professor Dr. Mohammad Julfikar Ali, Chairman of the Department of Business Administration, who recently delivered a keynote address at the Berlin Climate Summit, held on September 29โ€“30 in Berlin. In his address, he shed light on the often-overlooked impact of climate change on women in Bangladeshโ€™s vulnerable coastal regions, emphasizing that climate change is not only an environmental crisis but also a womenโ€™s rights and public health emergency. He further underscored the urgent need for a gender-inclusive approach to building climate resilience.
Dr. Ali outlined the challenges women in coastal areas face, such as salinity intrusion and limited access to safe drinking water, which affect their health, dignity, and livelihoods. He urged policymakers and global leaders to move beyond the usual focus on agricultural and infrastructure losses and address the human and gender-specific impacts of climate change.
Several experts at the summit echoed Dr. Aliโ€™s call, stressing the need for international cooperation and targeted policy interventions to address these challenges. Dr. Aliโ€™s work bridges academic research and advocacy, advancing climate action that prioritizes social justice and equity.
