Eating habits has long been an integral part of the heritage and traditions any nation including of Bangladesh. So far as Bangladesh is concerned one of its most valuable components are the country’s indigenous fruits, vegetables, and agricultural produces. Happily Bangladesh is blessed with fertile land and abundant natural resources which enable us to produce a wide variety of fruits renowned for their distinct taste, quality, and nutritional value. Categorically, the month of Jaishtha and Ashar, is the season for harvest of seasonal fruits such as mangoes, blackberries, litchis, jackfruits, lotkon, and many others.
To promote awareness of the nutritional values of local fruits and to strengthen students’ connection with the country’s cultural heritage, Presidency University has organized a two-day Seasonal Fruit Festival beginning on June 11, 2026, continuing its annual tradition.
The festival was formally inaugurated at 11:00 a.m. on the university campus by the honorable Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Mannan Chowdhury. The event created a vibrant and festive atmosphere as students enthusiastically participated in the fest. The venue offers a colorful display of various seasonal fruits to its various stakeholders including students, academic staffs, non academic staffs and to its distinguished guests.
The occasion was graced by Professor Dr. Anwarul Kabir, Principal Adviser of the University, as the Special Guest. Among others present were Md. Sakir Hossain, Registrar; Professor Dr. Shahidul Islam Khan Nayeem, Dean of the School of Engineering; Professor Abul Kalam, Dean of the School of Business; Professor Mohammad Azharul Islam, Dean of the School of Law; Md. Zahedur Rahman, Controller of Examinations; Md. Anisur Rahman, Proctor; Chairpersons and Heads of various departments;
Mrs. Afroza Helen, Director of Student Affairs and Administration; and Musfiqur Rahman Dhruba, Deputy Director and Head of Strategic Operations and Student Affairs; Orchestrated the implementation of the event and Jahid Hasan, Deputy Director and Head of Public Relations dealt with its promotion of the event to media & public domain.
In the inaugural ceremony the speakers highlighted the nutritional value, health benefits, and cultural significance of domestic fruits. They highly appreciated the initiative for promoting awareness and placed emphasis on the consumption of local fruits among the students and other stakeholders. They also underscored the importance of such programs to help connecting younger generations with the country’s traditions, culture, and roots.
